Installation requirements for Thermador under-counter and Freedom Column wine coolers — ventilation, electrical, leveling, and placement.

Under-counter installation

Thermador under-counter wine coolers (24″ width) install into a standard 24″ cabinet opening. The front-ventilation design allows fully built-in installation without side or rear clearance — all heat exhaust exits through the front toe-kick grille. Ensure this grille is never blocked by rugs, mats, or cabinet trim.

Freedom Column installation

Freedom Wine Columns (18″) install flush with cabinetry using panel-ready doors. The installation follows the same principles as Freedom refrigerator and freezer columns: precise cutout, Freedom Hinge for flush alignment, and SideTouchControl communication cable if pairing with other columns.

Electrical

Standard 120V, 15-amp dedicated outlet. Position the outlet per the installation template — typically behind the unit at the bottom of the cabinet opening.

Leveling is critical

Wine coolers must be perfectly level — more so than other appliances. An unlevel cooler increases compressor vibration, which disturbs wine sediment and accelerates aging. Use a precision level on the shelf surface (not just the cabinet opening) and adjust the leveling feet until perfectly flat in both directions.

Placement considerations

Avoid installing next to heat sources (ovens, dishwashers, direct sunlight). Heat forces the compressor to work harder, increases energy use, and can cause temperature fluctuations. An ambient temperature of 50-95°F is the operating range — garages and outdoor kitchens may fall outside this in extreme weather.

Door swing

Thermador wine coolers come in right-hinge (RS) and left-hinge (LS) models. Choose based on your cabinet layout — the door should open away from adjacent cabinetry or walls. The hinge side cannot be changed after purchase.
