AquaStop Plus: multi-layer protection
Thermador AquaStop Plus is not a single component — it’s a system of three independent leak protection layers that work together to prevent water damage from dishwasher failures.
Layer 1: Base pan sensor
A float sensor in the base pan (the tray beneath the wash tub) detects any water that has escaped the tub. This catches leaks from cracked sumps, failed seals, loose hose clamps, and condensation issues. When triggered, the dishwasher immediately stops all water intake and activates the drain pump to evacuate water. This generates error code E15.
Layer 2: Double-wall supply hose
The water supply hose connecting your house plumbing to the dishwasher has two walls — an inner hose carrying water and an outer hose acting as containment. If the inner hose develops a leak or rupture, the outer hose catches the water and channels it to the shutoff valve at the tap end.
Layer 3: Electric shutoff valve
An electrically actuated valve at the tap connection (where the hose meets your water supply) closes automatically when the base pan sensor triggers or when the control board detects any abnormal water condition. This stops water at the source — before it even enters the hose.
Together
A standard dishwasher with just one of these layers might leak hundreds of gallons before detection. AquaStop Plus catches leaks at three different points in the water path, limiting damage to the small amount already in the base pan when the sensor triggers.
If E15 appears, the system is working as designed. Schedule service online for diagnosis of the leak source.
