Freezer not cold enough
Check the temperature setting (should be 0°F / -18°C). Verify the door gasket seals properly — paper-slip test. Listen for the compressor — if silent, check the circuit breaker. Look for frost on the evaporator (behind the interior back panel) — excessive frost means the defrost system has failed, blocking airflow.
Too much frost
Frost exceeding 1/4″ on interior walls or the evaporator indicates a defrost system failure. The auto-defrost cycle runs every 8-12 hours — if it fails, frost accumulates continuously. Causes: burned-out defrost heater, failed bi-metal thermostat, or defrost timer/control board issue. Manual defrost (unplug for 24 hours) is a temporary fix.
Compressor not starting
Listen for repeated clicking — this indicates the start relay is trying but failing to start the compressor. A single click followed by silence can mean the overload protector has tripped from overheating. Check the circuit breaker. Move frozen items to another freezer immediately to prevent spoilage.
SuperFreeze not working
If SuperFreeze won’t activate or won’t turn off after its timeout, the control board timer circuit or thermistor may be faulty. The freezer continues normal operation without SuperFreeze — it just can’t do the rapid-freeze boost.
Freedom Column communication lost (E5/E15)
If the freezer column can’t communicate with its paired refrigerator, each unit still cools independently. Reset both by unplugging for 5 minutes. Check the SideTouchControl communication cable connections.
