Island construction
Thermador built-in grills require a non-combustible island enclosure — stone, brick, stainless steel, or concrete block. Wood-framed islands are not suitable without proper fire-rated insulation and liner kits. The island cutout must match your grill model’s dimensions exactly. Ensure the island structure can support the grill’s weight (check specifications).
Gas supply
A dedicated gas line rated for the grill’s total BTU output is required. Natural gas and LP (propane) versions are available — confirm which you need before installation. All gas connections must be performed by a licensed gas installer and tested with a leak detector. Install a gas shutoff valve within reach of the grill for emergency shutoff.
Clearances
Maintain clearances to combustible surfaces on all sides per the installation manual. Outdoor grills produce significantly more heat than indoor ranges — clearances are typically larger. The rear of the grill needs ventilation space for the firebox — never install flush against a solid back wall.
Electrical
120V, 15-amp outdoor-rated GFCI outlet for ignition, lighting, and rotisserie motor. The outlet must be weatherproof and accessible without removing the grill.
Rotisserie considerations
If your model includes a rotisserie, ensure adequate clearance above the cooking surface for the spit and counterweight. The rear infrared burner for rotisserie cooking needs its own gas connection within the manifold — this is factory-configured but verify during installation.
Cover and protection
While not part of installation, plan for a quality fitted cover from day one. Outdoor exposure without a cover dramatically shortens the life of igniters, burner tubes, and stainless steel surfaces. Install a cover hook or storage nearby.
