What is Freedom Column?
Thermador Freedom Column is a modular refrigeration system — separate full-height refrigerator, freezer, and wine columns that install flush with cabinetry. Each column has its own compressor, evaporator, and sealed system. They connect via the SideTouchControl communication bus for unified temperature management and display.
Choosing your configuration
Common pairings: 36″ refrigerator + 24″ freezer, 30″ refrigerator + 18″ freezer, or 24″ refrigerator + 18″ freezer + 18″ wine column. Each column operates independently — you can start with one and add others later.
SideTouchControl setup
The SideTouchControl panel installs between adjacent columns. A communication cable connects each column to the panel. After installation, power on all columns simultaneously and follow the pairing wizard on the SideTouchControl display. If a column shows E15, the communication cable connection needs checking.
Temperature optimization
Refrigerator column: 37°F. Freezer column: 0°F. Wine column: set per zone (reds 55-65°F, whites 45-55°F). Use SuperCool on the refrigerator when loading large grocery hauls — it drops temperature temporarily to prevent existing items from warming.
Power outage recovery
After a power outage, all columns will restart automatically. Check SideTouchControl for E15 — reset both columns if communication doesn’t restore. Keep doors closed during outages — a full freezer maintains safe temperature for about 48 hours unopened.
