What SideTouchControl does
SideTouchControl is the unified management interface for Thermador Freedom Column installations. When you pair a refrigerator column with a freezer column (and optionally a wine or ice maker column), SideTouchControl provides a single control panel that manages all paired units together.
Communication protocol
Each Freedom Column has its own independent control board and compressor. SideTouchControl connects to each column via a dedicated communication cable — a simple two-wire data bus that carries temperature readings, status updates, and control commands between units. This is a master-slave architecture where SideTouchControl is the master and individual columns are slaves that report their status and accept temperature commands.
Pairing process
After physical installation and cable connection, SideTouchControl runs a pairing wizard. Each column identifies itself (type, model, capabilities) and registers with the panel. Once paired, the panel displays all zones, allows temperature adjustment for each, and shows alerts from any unit.
Independent operation
Each column continues to cool independently even if SideTouchControl fails or communication is lost (E15 error). The columns fall back to their last known temperature settings and operate autonomously. This architecture means a communication issue is inconvenient (no unified display) but not an emergency (food stays cold).
