Outdoor grill lifespan
Thermador Professional grills last 10-15 years with proper maintenance. Outdoor exposure accelerates wear compared to indoor appliances — igniters, burner tubes, and stainless steel components face rain, humidity, UV, and temperature extremes year-round.
Always repair
- Igniter replacement — the most common grill repair, expected maintenance
- Individual burner tube replacement
- Rotisserie motor
- Control knob or valve (individual)
- Cooking grates
- Heat distribution plates/flavorizer bars
Evaluate carefully
- Infrared searing tile — cracked tiles must be fully replaced, costs vary by model
- Multiple burner tubes corroded simultaneously — may indicate the firebox is deteriorating
- Ignition module (controls all igniters) — expensive but services the entire cooktop
When to replace
Firebox structural rust (holes, severe thinning). Gas manifold corrosion or internal gas leak (safety issue). When the island needs reconstruction anyway (opportunity to upgrade). If converting from natural gas to propane (or vice versa) — sometimes a new unit is simpler than a conversion kit.
Prevention extends life
A quality cover is the single best investment — grills with covers last 2-3x longer than uncovered units. Clean after each use, perform spring startup inspection, and winterize properly.
