What we fix on Thermador cooktops.

/01

Induction zone not heating

Zone doesn't activate or heats intermittently. Incompatible cookware, cracked glass, failed inverter board, or induction coil connection issue.

/02

Freedom Induction error

Freedom Induction full-surface zone not detecting cookware position. Sensor array malfunction, glass surface damage, or control module fault.

/03

Star Burner ignition fail

Gas burner clicks but won't light. Faulty igniter, clogged port in 5-point star design, moisture, or gas valve failure.

/04

ExtraLow not working

Simmer setting not holding minimum flame. Gas valve calibration drift, orifice partially clogged, or control knob linkage wear.

/05

Cracked cooktop glass

Glass surface cracked from impact or thermal stress. Requires full glass panel replacement — not repairable.

/06

Touch controls unresponsive

Capacitive touch panel not responding. Moisture on surface, control board failure, or sensor membrane delamination.

/07

Power level fluctuating

Heat output inconsistent on induction zones. Inverter board capacitor degradation, loose coil connection, or power supply variation.

/08

Ventilation downdraft fail

Integrated downdraft ventilation not activating or weak suction. Blower motor failure, duct blockage, or control switch issue.

/09

Gas burner flame uneven

Star Burner flame irregular or yellow-tipped. Clogged ports, air shutter misadjustment, or low gas supply pressure.

/10

Electric element failure

One or more radiant element zones won't heat. Element burnout, infinite switch failure, or wiring harness break.

/11

Child lock stuck on

Safety lock engaged and won't deactivate. Control board glitch, touch panel calibration, or firmware issue.

/12

Cookware detection error

Induction zone rejects compatible cookware. Sensor calibration off, coil damage, or minimum pan size not met for zone.

These are the most common issues — not an exhaustive list. Our technicians diagnose and repair any Thermador cooktop problem, including intermittent faults, unusual symptoms, and issues not listed here.

About Thermador cooktop repair

Thermador cooktop technology

Thermador cooktops span three technologies: gas with patented Star Burners, Freedom Induction with full-surface cooking, and electric radiant. The Freedom Induction cooktop is Thermador’s most advanced — it uses a matrix of induction coils beneath the entire glass surface, allowing any size or shape of cookware to be placed anywhere on the surface. This technology requires specialized diagnostic tools to test individual coil segments, sensor arrays, and the multi-zone inverter control system.

Gas cooktops feature the Star Burner with ExtraLow capability — the five-pointed burner design delivers 56% more flame coverage than round burners and can simmer as low as 100°F. Professional series models include a central wok burner with up to 22,000 BTU output.

What a Thermador cooktop service visit includes

For induction models: each zone is tested for coil output, sensor response, and inverter function. For gas: all burners are tested for ignition, flame quality, and ExtraLow calibration. Gas connections inspected with leak detector. Genuine OEM parts, 30-day warranty.

Our Thermador cooktop repair process

Every Thermador cooktop repair follows a structured diagnostic process:

  1. Error code retrieval: We connect to the control board and pull stored fault codes and operational history
  2. Component testing: Each suspected component is tested individually with Thermador-specific diagnostic equipment
  3. Root cause identification: We identify the actual failure, not just the symptom — preventing repeat service calls
  4. Repair with OEM parts: Genuine Thermador replacement parts installed to factory specifications
  5. Verification: Post-repair test cycle confirms the issue is resolved and no secondary faults exist

Frequently asked questions about Thermador cooktops

What is Freedom Induction?
Unlike standard induction cooktops with fixed zones, Freedom Induction has no zone markings. The entire glass surface is active — place any compatible pan anywhere and the sensor matrix automatically detects its position and size, activating only the coils beneath it.

What cookware works with induction?
Only ferromagnetic cookware: cast iron, magnetic stainless steel, and enameled cast iron. Test with a magnet — if it sticks firmly to the pan bottom, it’s compatible. Aluminum, copper, glass, and non-magnetic stainless steel won’t heat.

Is gas or induction more efficient?
Induction is 85-90% efficient (energy to food) vs 40-55% for gas. Water boils about twice as fast on induction. However, gas gives visual flame feedback that some cooks prefer.

Can a cracked cooktop glass be repaired?
No — the entire glass panel must be replaced. It’s one piece. Do not use a cracked cooktop — cracks can allow spills to reach electrical components.

What’s a bridge zone?
A bridge zone connects two adjacent induction zones into one large zone for griddles or roasting pans. Activate it from the touch controls when using oversized cookware.
